Friends,
SNCO,
Us

It’s been almost 7 years since I first stepped into an SWE (now SNCO) practice back when we were still at Tampines. Time flies, and I have been pondering about certain events recently (regarding SNCO).
Anyway, I thought I’d managed to get Kat and Audrey to practice with me yesterday but unfortunately I was wrong. Both of them got me to ‘morning call’ them but in the end, both of them didn’t pick up and both of them didn’t go.
But don’t get me wrong. I’m not pissed, not annoyed, not angry. I’m like totally neutral about it. For some reason, if my life weren’t filled with stuff like that, I would have been mad and freaked out. But this is life. There are people who will do that.
I’m not writing this to scold them or what. But just my thoughts.
Anyway, I’m glad that I went. Coz I was like the earliest and I got to do like 51mins of daimoku before practice! Haha. Awesome! And, Jun Hong came back! Double awesome! He’s like one of the big brothers I have in SNCO. Haven’t seen him in ages and he said he haven’t played his trombone for a year and Eddie got him to come back
Speaking of which, we did percussion ensemble yesterday. haha. Puts music theory to good use coz Percussion scores were scary huh? Haha.
—————————————————-
Went to Huzz‘s place after that and my lunch was rice fried by him. I think Huzz is kinda sore that I didn’t take a pic of it. >.< Very sorry! Btw, the rice was quite nice. Never eaten rice fried with cucumbers actually.
He's going to cook a meal for me every weekend! Yay!
----------------------------------------------------
Oh and I got back my B&W pics. Thought of the day: Don't take B&W pics of places. It's just boring. I should either take people or... I don't know. Gotta do some research on flickr I guess

Friends,
SNCO,
Soka
What a great day!
Met/saw tons of people that I know. haha okay not tons but relatively a lot compared to the usual
Saw Candy Yeow in school! Wow turns out she’s in NUS too! She’s in like all the tertiary institutions that I’ve been to so far. SRJC, NYP and now NUS
Met Beatriz at Harbourfront. Wow Haven’t seen her in ages. Managed to get her to perform with us
Then, saw Vanessa & Kenneth at Subway! Turns out they’re going for Friday Rendezvous too! I was fixated on the group of NUSHS kids (wondering if Charmelon were among them) that I didn’t see V&K at the table next to them -_-”
Managed to at least let Kenneth know about the details for the upcoming Chamber Ensemble performance
Hope to get everyone back!
Not to mention, I also got to meet Huzz after he was allowed to book out early. YAY!!!

Some updates about my life! I’ve yet to put pictures from the BBQ outing with Huzz and his friends coz I haven’t received the pictures from KY yet. So I’ll update the other stuff first.
Yesterday was Soka’s Arts and Cultural Groups recruitment day. There are so many different groups that I don’t know the names of all the groups. 15 different A&C groups basically. It was kind of like a CCA orientation thing.
I didn’t bring my camera, coz I wasn’t the official photographer of the day (I wanted to be but too bad for me lol).
Throughout that few hours, I learnt how to solve part of a rubix cube, and also played with Nikee‘s son, who I realised is 12 days older than Tong Tong
They both behave in similar ways. Or do 16 month old babies all do the same things?
Cute leh.
Oh ya also asked Tommy about Huzz’s cello problem. Hope the person that he recommended can solve the cello problem.
Pictures are courtesy of Meow Ling. I took them from fb.

Me doing semi quavers

Hao Wei, Hui Wen and Wei Le. They play super nice okay! Everytime they and Tommy play together, everyone will keep quiet and listen.
Btw, they’re all like in secondary school or something and they’re all cousins (with Tommy, Martin and Audrey). Talented family. Wish that my cousins and I can all come together and play like them.

While waiting…

My shi fu teaching me rubix cube while waiting. This small one got wrecked by me… Ahh…

Tommy playing his cello. I want to play a cello too!!!

Backstage. Haha I look lucu
haha

Kat and I

Hui Ping’s rubix cube and me (after I wrecked my small rubix cube). Hahaha
I wonder when I’ll be pro enough to stop feeling nervous during a performance.

Rants,
SNCO,
SWE
Was super distracted while revising, then decided to flip through my photo album (which consists of a lot of OPP Chengdu pictures and a few other pictures), and I found this:

How long was it since this? About 4 years I guess.
So many things have changed. So many people no longer around, so many people not there. Out of that so many people in the photo, seems like only 13 of us are still in the now SNCO-band.
I can’t help but be a little emotional about this. I can’t help but still think back about the things that have happened since that picture. I can’t help but also look back at the BBQ before it all changed.
How naive was I… Even if Chuan Ming wants to come back, it’s a bit difficult now eh?
——————–
Btw, I got a haircut.

Quite fun despite it supposed to be a religious ceremony. But hey, we’re Soka. haha =)

I realised we’re more or less one whole SNCO clique already. =)
Btw, I think I want my wedding photos to be taken by this company. Alice‘s wedding book is soooooo nice can?

My Story,
SNCO,
Soka
I learnt a lot during the course of this concert. As a percussionist, my main instruments are usually and most of the time the mallet and timpani instruments but this time, I get to play the drumset! Okay. it’s not the first time I play a drumset during a concert, but it’s the first time I play only the drumset.
For those who don’t know, SNCO (Soka New Century Orchestra), Koteiketai (Fife & Drum Corp) and YMD Brass Band are part of the 3 band branches in the Music & Culture (M&C) branch in Singapore Soka Association (SSA). The other groups under the M&C are the Chinese Orchestra, the Choir, some dance groups etc. There are so many that I may not even know some of it.
So anyway, we were told last year that we’ll be having a combined performance to let people know that we have such groups in SSA. This is partly to prepare for our recruitment drive coming soon.
When I first heard about the parts & pieces that we were going to play for this performance, I thought I’m in for a tough time. Coz I was the only one left in percussion at that point of time (long story), so I decided that for this performance, I am going to 1) get as many percussionists back as possible 2) improve in my drumset playing.
I have to admit, I was rather slack for the first or second practices that I attended (with regards to this performance), but afterwards, I went to look for the music and basically listened to them all the time until it got to a point of obsession. It’s like, “I can’t listen to other stuff except Love Love Love.”
So when we had one combined and I was told not to play, I basically just broke down and got terribly upset with myself.
I don’t blame anyone else for me not being able to play, I just felt that perhaps I didn’t put in enough effort or wasn’t good enough.
But then again, what I really want was (and still is) a percussion tutor to help me.
Then, I got to know the Koteiketai percussion girls and we went to Uncle Jack‘s place for just one day of help (Wei Fen also came along). That day just inspired me greatly la.
Anyway, I remembered the following week’s practice came by and it was actually a combine rehearsal (I was so doomed) and Wei Fen’s friend, Keith came. Keith’s the guest player playing the bass guitarist and I think he performs a lot outside, so he knew a lot about playing pop songs, where the cymbals must come in and all and he helped me a lot. So I learnt a lot this time from him and Uncle Jack! Thank you both!
Kat also came back from Saudi and I got her and Audrey back!! Happy! Haha. Audrey also brought her friend Lynn to perform with us
Thank you both Audrey and Lynn! *note to self, send an sms to all of them
Okay, so that was the background story. Now about today.
IT RAINED!
It rained when we reached Botanic Gardens, as we were all shuffling backstage.
And the culture of Soka is that if you ever have an outdoor performance and it rains, you chant. Haha. it happens for NDP, Chingay, YCF, etc. I’ve done so for the latter 2 kinds of performances and I will never forget about stuff like this. Especially when you see proof that your prayers will be answered.
So we all chanted backstage and it just kept raining and raining until it came to a light drizzle and about 30mins before the performance was about to start, the rain stopped.
How cool is that huh? =)
The performance itself was quite alright. I screwed up a bit but after listening to the video recording of bits that my sis took, i felt it was pretty well done for me. Haha. Thanks to all who encouraged me, especially my dearest bf.
THANK YOU!
Also thanks to all who came though I don’t really know exactly who, I know some YWD from NUSSD came, my parents, my sis, Huzz, Huzz’s mum
THANK YOU ALL!
And now, for the pictures. I was the unofficial photographer of the day. The official one was Ji Sheng I believe, coz I realised he was on stage walking around only at the last piece.

Before the performance (Lynn took this)

Me, Lynn and Audrey

The koteiketai percussion girls I was talking about… Erm I only remember Carol‘s name. =x

Weili, Kat, Alice, Shini and Keith. Keith didn’t want his photos online actually but I convinced him to allow me to upload them on fb! haha.

YMD Chief Leonard giving words of encouragement.

haha. Leonard’s son. Haha. He was like dismantling stuff around him.

My sis did some video recordings of bits of our performance (heng she didn’t record my mistake) and I’ll post a link of it when she uploads it.

SNCO,
Us
Dancing Queen is looping in my head right now >.< After like 7 hours of orch practice lor.
Finally Audrey is back! Oh and she brought her friend Lynn as well. And saw Pin Wen too. Lol. Why do all NS guys look the same??
Anyway, yesterday Huzz and I watched The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. We had seats A1 and A2. Imagine that! There were a LOT of people outside coz it was 14 Feb. It was just a usual date day for us (Saturday). Our V-day falls on March 14/15 (pick one
). We celebrated V-day in March last year too
(Wow. Last year I’d just finished my last poly exams)
We people watched too, and I noticed a lot of guys carrying big bears and girls carrying nothing -_-”
Okok. Enough of this.
Friday – Huzz got his pay and gave me a treat at Sakura Buffet (Omni theatre). The last time I went was with my poly classmates, though it was at a now-already-closed-down Toa Payoh outlet. I wanted the raw oysters but then only found out where they were after having taken cooked food. ahhhh!! And oh the “exemption clause” at where the raw oysters were is pretty big. And I was like stunned when I saw it. But then again, is it considered an exemption clause? After all, it was only introduced after we had paid for the buffet. hm…
Friday’s dinner was one of the best date, if not, the best, a girl could ever have. =)

SNCO
This week’s weird. I went through a few physically demanding “challenges”.
Bumped my head on Tuesday and got a bump on my head for a few days.
Yesterday I went to Kent Ridge park and got bitten by mosquitoes.
Today i got bitten by a cat. Okay it wasn’t a very like big bite like what you see on Google Images, but it was a bite alright. I wanted to kill the cat haha but it ran away. =( *kidding*
But anyway, I immediatly used whatever water I had left in my water bottle to wash the wound and washed it somemore after I reached home about less than 5 minutes later. Used Walch as well and now I have a plaster over it.
I just hope it won’t turn into some infection. =/
—————————————-
Had SNCO this morning and afternoon. I have pretty sore leg muscles right now from the playing of drumset. The Red Band’s drumset is not one for beginners. haha, but it sounds much nicer of course.
There’s this bassist that came today, Keith. He gave me a lot of tips about the scores. Learnt quite a lot that I’d never noticed before in pop music.
—————————————-
Went to Huzz‘s place after that. Ahhh.. I love him a lot. Haha. Found out something cute about him that made us laugh all the way to CCK. Hahaha.
Then came that unfortunate cat incident. Argh.

Family,
Life,
SNCO,
Soka,
Thoughts,
Us
Went to HS this morning. Shall reserve my comments. haha, but well, they’ve improved a lot! I’m honestly impressed.
Did homework, then went to Huzz‘s area. I had a great time hanging out at IMM with him. =)
Sis and mum are back home!
(Ok this entry’s sounding kinda childish)
Went for SNCO then. Only a few of us came, but I am so glad to see them again!
Weili, Meow Ling, Geng Qin, Eddie, Shini and Kaili.
I overheard that Kaili got promoted at SAF band.
Anyway, I ended up playing flute and trumpet parts on the mallets. Very not used to it! Flute notes are too high for me to get used to and trumpet part I had to sight-read and transpose it while sight-reading! I know they are excuses as the main reason’s that I’m not good enough =/
Just did a MBTI for fun test. My results are:
Introverted: 11%
Sensing: 1%
Thinking: 12%
Judging: 22%
And the most interesting thing is as follows. Based on the results of my personality, the career types that I’m most suitable for are (in order):
Law/Enforcement
11. Military Training
10. Law
Healthcare
9. Dentist/Dental Assistant
8. Physician
Management
7. Sport Coaching
6. Accounting
5. Management
Technical
4. Mechanics/Automotive Repair
3. Engineering
2. Technology Education
and the number one just owned.:
1. Computer Programming
Of course, I wasn’t sure if it was just an ad, but I am so amazed. Lol
