Review

Remember last year when I won a pair of tickets from Shan and Rozz of 987FM to watch a movie with my sister for her birthday?
This year, I got the opportunity thanks to Omy.sg to watch Despcable Me!! And again, I brought Candy to the preview.
I immediately signed up when I saw the opportunity so that I am able to bring her again!

When we arrived, The Cathay was super crowded and we realised that this is the very first preview of Despicable Me in SG! Meaning we were one of the first group of people watching it in Singapore!
Haha.

There were people handing out stickers, and queuing for photos. And as you’d seen in the first image, my sis and I took one with the minions too (who are probably kids judging from their height).

I didn’t know what the movie was about actually, except that this guy (Gru) wants to be super evil so he stole some stuff like the statue of liberty (from Vegas lol) and the Times Square screen and now he wants to be the super evil person and steal the moon.
Who is it to stop him right? Right! Except this other evil guy (I shall not say who, go and watch it) and 3 little kids who managed to touch his heart. haha.
I shall not say too much to spoil it but go and watch it. You’ll laugh like mad and GO AND WATCH THE 3D VERSION! I know it may sound like I’m trying to advertise for the movie (this is after all a review) but I believe they made the movie for 3D. Especially some scenes! Shall not spoil it but the experience is just amazing.
Do sit through the credits too (with your 3D glasses). The few small scenes after that that played with the 3D technology is amazing.
I just found this app where you can translate what the minions are saying in the movie! Go download it before you watch it here: http://www.bestbuymoviemode.com/
My favourites are the minions as well as the little girl, Agnes. haha. She’s so cute!

Excellent movie! I gave it 4.5/5 stars because of the humour, fun, great 3D effects and some surprising stuff that happens in it. Lol.
Oh and the soundtrack’s mostly done by Pharrell Williams, who is a popular artiste and worked with people like Justin Timberlake before.
Thank you Omy.sg for the movie!
Anyway, Candy was sick before the movie so we couldn’t go for a good dinner!
Another day then.
Leaving you with one more pic of the minion:

If you haven’t watched the movie Obsessed, starring Ali Larter and Beyonce, don’t read on.
Contributed by Huzz and I.
1. If you are a babysitter and some stranger enters your house and wants to call the houseowner that you are babysitting for, call the owner yourself. Or if she calls, request to speak to the houseowner too.
2. Tell your other half everything. She/he’s your other half!
3. Don’t be over friendly to strangers.
4. Don’t say things like, “If I were single, I would date you.” to people unless you are single and you want to date the person.
5. If you are pushed into a toilet cubicle by someone who wants to attack you and someone else passes by, shout for help and not whisper, “shh shh quiet quiet!” That is pure stupidity.

Last Thursday also saw me being quite desperate about what to give my sister for her birthday. She wanted expensive stuff like some porcelain fillings on her teeth (or something) and also Ray Ban’s. I have my own school fees to handle and also attempts to save up for the Panasonic GH1.
Side track a bit, the GH1 costs $2499! Not $1499 like what the Best Denki guy at IMM told me.
Just then, I heard about the “Movie Monday” contest that Shan and Rozz would do each week and let listeners bring their friend along to watch a movie with them. So then, I thought “Hm.. why not?” since my sis and I haven’t watched Ice Age 3 yet. So I texted in to Shan (Rozz was on leave).
Guess what? I received his call right as I’d just stepped into my house!
He asked me for my reason, which all I did was repeat my sms, and Shan asked what was it my sister wanted and why couldn’t I afford it. I told him about school and about my PT job and after he finished recording, he told me that he’ll text me the information.

This was for the previous Monday Movie Night
And that was it!
Monday (6 July 09). I met up with my sis at PS after work and we had dinner together at Kopitiam. Talked a bit, walked around a lot and then we saw Shan and Rozz and this girl heading towards us. We found out that the girl’s Shan’s gf afterwards. (heh heh) Shan’s freaking tall!! Talking to him felt weird coz i had to tilt my head up a lot. But he remembered that I’m from NUS and all!
Ice Age 3′s great actually! It’s like an adventure, comedy and romance movie all packed into an animated movie.
After the movie, we had to talk about the movie a bit, and Shan was like telling us what to say and all that. Lol. Rozz didn’t talk much actually.
Took the above picture with them and then everyone went our separate ways.
Hope you enjoyed the movie, Candy. I have no idea what to give you so hope you liked the movie and the outing with 2 DJs from your favourite radio station!
Happy early birthday!

This gathering was kinda last minute. Anthony only asked me last Sunday or Monday night and told Huzz and I to come as well. I was the only BI student and the rest were from IT.
Anyway, when I reached, Teck Hwee, Anthony, Chin Leng, Huzz were already there and then we decided to walk to Marina Square first while waiting for Yan Qin (aka Panda) and Li Ying. At the bridge crossing over to Marina Square, this guy walked up behind Teck Hwee, Anthony and Chin Leng and…
Me: Eh! *Grabs Huzz arm* Yan Qin!!
Huzz: Huh?
Me: Yan Qin leh! *points to the guy*
Huzz: No la. Not him!
Me: Yes it’s him! Not meh? *skeptical*
Huzz: No la not him! But maybe it’s him leh *looks at the guy*
The conversation was something like that, and then the guy turned around and put his lips to his fingers.
It was Yan Qin!!! Gosh!!!! We can’t call him Panda anymore.

All of us watched Night at the Museum 2. I didn’t watch the first one though (sadly) but it was great! I wonder if the Pharoh from Night at the Museum is really Ben Adams? Nope he isn’t Ben Adams but a lookalike.
Great movie though! Love it!! But the romantic parts were a bit… erm… Well, I cringed through it though. I don’t think the real Amelia Earhart would behave like that?
Went for lunch at this Jap restaurant (they picked the place, I followed) and Mike joined us for lunch.

I had Kakiage Don.

Huzz had Black Pepper Chicken Don.
After that, we were joined by Jasmine and everyone went to the Asia Games Convention or whatever and it wasn’t much of a games convention but more like a minature IT show. I collected loads of brochures of DSLRs and cameras.
Then, we killed time by walking around doing I-don’t-know-what. I was basically just playing Huzz’s PSP (Rock Band!).

Then had dinner at the foodcourt only with Huzz and Li Ying because the rest decided that they don’t want to eat at Suntec and decided to go off. I wished I had pasta or delifrance though after I saw a pastamania poster.

*One look and you know which are photoshopped and which are not

You know what, I have so much to talk about today.
I’ve been thinking back about the past month, the past week, the past few days. yea I think a lot randomly. It’s like, thoughts just appear somehow in my head.
And I think I haven’t been wrong about my views about people so far. Or at least, I haven’t been wrong when it comes to my point-of-view and Huzz‘s point-of-view.
Okay, shall not elaborate, coz it’s just weird to type those stuff out. So I shall write in our journal.
But anyway, watched the movie Keith! It starrs Jesse McCartney. I happened to see the poster while browsing FB and it looked interesting, so I watched it.
So many lines are in my head. It’s quite a good movie, but sad too. But it makes you reflect about your life in a way as well.
Anyway, I can’t wait for the next few outings. Not sure who will turn out and who won’t, but everytime I’m at this part of the semester (week 10), I feel like I’ve neglected contacting my friends. Especially Eve. =x
3 weeks till the end of semester. I’ll be year 2 (year 3 technically) soon.
4 weeks till exams.
6 weeks till the end of exams and work.
8 weeks till 2 years.
Soci presentation this fri, and another weekend of activities. I’m going to visit my Grandma! Plus a Soka meeting. And of course, out with Huzz. =)

Had V-day celebration with Huzz yesterday. =)
Met him at 4.50am (roughly, and yes am) at Mt Faber. Hahaha. It was so quiet at the top until we walked a little down to where there were seats and there were already a few couples there. Nope they weren’t doing anything. We sat there for time to pass and for the sun to rise.
But anyway, we walked up and down the road looking for the best sunrise view and unfortunately for us, there weren’t one! There are so many tress all around there blocking whatever view there was.
Oh well. But then again, the city at night is rather pretty!
Too bad my camera wasn’t good enough to take a picture of it. I so want a DSLR. Haha.

We walked down Mt Faber to Harbourfront Centre, at that time pretty blur already.

We decided to go to KFC for breakfast since it was like their new menu or something. I remembered that KFC once had porridge that was super delicious, then they took it off the menu. In fact, they took off the whole breakfast menu only until recently. I had waffles with eggs and Huzz had American breakfast in wrap or something. I can’t remember the name.

Walked around for a while, but the shops were mainly closed. While waiting for GV to open, we rested around a while (haha) and then went to Page One and read Post Secret Books!
Anyway, we watched Departures.
Basically I like how the whole story was about – Death. Death is an issue that many who don’t really encounter it will be afraid about, and death is basically one of the reason why religions exists, to explain about what will happen after death (I read this I think in my sociology textbook).
It’s pretty interesting to learn the formal way of handling a dead body in Japan. It’s like an art that not many knows and that will probably be lost in the future if no one continues with this part of the culture.
[Unfortunately for me, my tutor said that there aren't any exclusive modules on death for sociology and I would have to take Sociology of Religion to know about the society's view on death]
Went to IT Show. Let’s just say that I don’t really enjoy going to IT shows unless i have to buy something and usually I’ll go with a person.
Dinner was at Kenny Rogers Toasters!! Our first time there. =) Thank you so much!

*Spoiler alert!*
What I’d liked:
1. The Hokkien songs that added to the mood of the scenes in the movie.
2. The morals in the movie were somewhat heartwarming and meaningful.
3. Some parts were really funny.
4. Singlish and Hokkien makes this a real Singapore movie.
5. The bloopers shown during the credits. Watch out for Mark Lee’s blooper (he said “sanitary napkin” instead of “ministry of health”).
What I didn’t like:
1. I don’t really get the main theme/focus of the movie. Too many morals and too many stuff happening. (contradicting eh?)
2. Too much CGI
3. Too many product placements and the way they advertise the products in the movie is irritating.
4. Who still does MLM these days???

Scene: Outside an indoor stadium watching other performers outside doing their preparations before a performance.
Friend looks at the sky and notices dark clouds.
Friend (worried): “Oh no. It’s sure to rain later.”
Girl (looks up at sky): “Nah, the wind will blow the clouds away, and the sky would be clear again.”

Merry Christmas to all!
Watched I am Legend today with Huzz (sorry Charmelon)! Excellent movie that made my heart beat faster at the correct times, laugh, feel sad and all. It’s a simple to understand movie that would make you really feel for the lead character.
Saw lots of stars today outside HG MRT station. Not as many as the stars I saw in Malaysia, but still, it was wonderful.
Recently I’d read that the depression rate in SG is higher around these few weeks because the festive season would make people feel more lonely and all. Heard that there were some MRT suidcides too today. So I hope that no matter what, everyone will pull through, no matter how sad or lonely you feel.
Pretty soon, the new year’s coming. I wonder what’s in store for me in 2008?
2007 has so far been a wonderful year for me. The year has been happy, rough, tough, challenging, adventurous, (any other adjectives?). It honestly has been an excellent year. I learnt a lot, gained a lot, gave a lot, shared a lot. Would definitely want 2008 to be a year as fufilling as 2007.
Update: My aunt and cousin Jesslyn will be coming to SG this weekend, but looks like I can’t go out with them.

Watched Enchanted with Huzz today!! Excellent movie! haha. I love the whole movie, the part where the animals cleaned up the house, the part where they were singing in the park, the last scene, everything!
“I’ve been dreaming of a true love’s kiss~”
(You might be wondering why my title was Grandfather but I was talking about the movie? Read on.)
While queuing for the tickets, I saw this boy and his grandfather in front buying tickets for Bee Movie. When I saw them, i was thinking how cool it is to actually watch a movie with your grandfather.
Then on my way home, I saw a little girl and her grandfather going home after a swim at YCK Swimming Complex. And from where I was, I felt very envious.
I started thinking about my late Grandfather. My Mum’s dad that is. [I never got to know my Grandpa (Dad's father) as he was killed in an accident when my dad was in his 20s]. And I somehow wished that I was able to go for movies with him, or swimming, or just about anything.
Because of his old age before he’d passed away a 5 years ago (has it been that long?), I usually get to see him only during sundays at my grandparents’ place.
It just reminds me to treasure and spend more time with everyone around me to feel less regret or sad when I can no longer spend time with them.
