June 2010 Projects: Cousins meetup (outside Grandma’s house)

Posted by Jasmine on Jul 9, 2010 in Family, Interesting, Thoughts

Sooo… a few months ago, a few of us cousins discussed and decided that we should have a cousins gathering/outing outside of Grandma’s house. The main reason being, we usually meetup only at grandma’s and we don’t really communicate much. I actually have a dream that the 20+ of us could come to one outing and take a group picture. It would really mean a lot to have that photo somewhere. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be one at the moment. :(

This holidays, I was supposed to visit Janning at KL, but the plan was cancelled in the end, and about a month ago, Janning emailed me to tell me that she’s coming to SG! :D What a surprise! So we discussed for a few nights on MSN where I could bring her to (for half a day) and she suggested we could have a mini cousins gathering. I mass FB-messaged my cousins, but not many replied unfortunately. :( We just gathered a few then, and after that set a day and place to meet.

Anyway, I got sick a few days before Janning came, but managed to recover on time. :)

On the 19th June, Uncle Alex drove Janning over to my house to pick me up and we headed to Khatib. As Janning was hungry, we went to a coffee shop at Khatib and Janning had her lunch while I had tea.

Sooo… Here are a few of the pics I took at Bottle Tree Park (which was our first stop for the day).

There was some fishing competition and this guy caught that fish. Pretty big, but they put it back after the photo.

Next stop was Marina Barrage! Okay we went to eat at this coffee shop next to Northpoint and surprisingly the bak chor mee was pretty good! Then we went to Marina Barrage.

We chatted along the way and I got to know Janning better. Haha. We’re both cousins but even though she’s from KL, I feel I’m also not that close with cousins from SG what say KL? I’m glad I got to talk to her and know her better. :)

It was dark when we arrived. I’d planned Marina Barrage as the “night event” because I felt that there would be more stuff there to see instead of Bottle Tree Park.

To be honest I didn’t know what I would see there, and wow! I didn’t realise that there would be soooo many people around as well as things happening!

Kite flying at night. Blur coz slow shutter speed and strong winds…

Basically, we walked around taking pictures of people and the view. It just so happened that there was NDP rehearsal and there were fireworks! But sad to say, I lack a tripod and the skills to take proper pictures of it.

UFO flying above Singapore Flyer??? :P

Look at all the people!

Light from MBS.

Anyway, most of the shots were blurry because of the lack of tripod and slow shutter. Quite bad la. :(

But it compensated for the above pic. Look closely at the fountains :D

Janning wanted to take the fountain with coloured lights but for some reason she kept missing the chance. So since we had time, we sat there and waited for it. I decided to experiment with bokeh shots. Haha. I’m quite amused by bokeh. Pretty interesting you know? So yea here are some of the shots.

Interesting how not to focus can give you nice art too. What I see when I don’t wear my specs basically. =x

At night.

We’d wanted to go to MBS but unfortunately I was too noob to know where to go. Lol I made us alight at the wrong stop (so paiseh) and the buses there weren’t that frequent so we had to go back or it would be too late.

Janning and I on the train! :D

So that was the first meetup with her! Remember the cousins gathering thingy, it was to be on the 21 June.

We’d asked quite a few cousins, but unfortunately by the actual day itself, it was just Janning, Me, Danny and Wei Wen. Fortunately to be honest. :) >1 person better than no one right?

Dinner was just Janning, Danny and I. Danny kept wanting to go to this place called “The Creation” at Shaw Centre (opposite Suntec that area) so we went!

I had pasta (can’t remember what) with chamomile tea and soup. Approximately $15. Not bad!

Wei Wen joined us after that and we took a group photo before heading to INK Club Bar.

Danny, Janning, Wei Wen and I. I know I’m the shortest

So we headed to INK! It’s a great place by the way. They had a guest trumpeter that day.

We had a drink each. Only Janning got an alcoholic drink. I was still under medication so didn’t dare. Next time perhaps! Love that place. Love the type of jazz music there. :)

We took another group pic together!

Benny was supposed to go on that day. But he had to OT till late (poor thing), and… he arranged for another meetup with Janning on the 22nd! :D

I brought Huzz along coz he’s almost family (hee hee) and we were supposed to be watching a movie that day. He was okay that we weren’t going for the movie anyways :D Thanks bf!

I reached there quite late because I had to OT a bit as well as the fact that I got off the wrong stop. zzz Huzz and I went to look for Janning, then we headed to Xin Wang HK Cafe at Marina Square for dinner!

Had a good long chat (okay I was mostly observing) with Janning and Benny. Huzz was pretty entertained as well.

Group shots!

*Group pics and pics at INK are courtesy of Janning!! :D

Well, it was a fufilling 3 days. I got to communicate with cousins Janning, Danny, Wei Wen and Benny. Learnt a lot about them that I didn’t know before. Basically the main reason was the age gap I feel and over the years, we just stopped talking much at Grandma’s and all. Pretty sad. But anyway, I am determined that one day, all of us cousins will be able to meetup like friends do outside of where we usually go to! In fact, I have this dream of having a photo of all of us 20+ cousins together. I will definitely print and frame it up if there comes such a day. I know that my cousins either like photography, or music or do something related to either one (e.g. singing, dancing, playing instrument, art, etc) and I belong to either one as well! I am very sure that we will all be good friends instead of only being related by blood.

Aiming for more of such outings! :D

Despicable Me [Omy.sg Movie Review]

Posted by Jasmine on Jul 7, 2010 in Family, Interesting, Movies, Omy, Review

Remember last year when I won a pair of tickets from Shan and Rozz of 987FM to watch a movie with my sister for her birthday?

This year, I got the opportunity thanks to Omy.sg to watch Despcable Me!! And again, I brought Candy to the preview. :) I immediately signed up when I saw the opportunity so that I am able to bring her again!

When we arrived, The Cathay was super crowded and we realised that this is the very first preview of Despicable Me in SG! Meaning we were one of the first group of people watching it in Singapore! :D Haha.

There were people handing out stickers, and queuing for photos. And as you’d seen in the first image, my sis and I took one with the minions too (who are probably kids judging from their height).

I didn’t know what the movie was about actually, except that this guy (Gru) wants to be super evil so he stole some stuff like the statue of liberty (from Vegas lol) and the Times Square screen and now he wants to be the super evil person and steal the moon.

Who is it to stop him right? Right! Except this other evil guy (I shall not say who, go and watch it) and 3 little kids who managed to touch his heart. haha.

I shall not say too much to spoil it but go and watch it. You’ll laugh like mad and GO AND WATCH THE 3D VERSION! I know it may sound like I’m trying to advertise for the movie (this is after all a review) but I believe they made the movie for 3D. Especially some scenes! Shall not spoil it but the experience is just amazing.

Do sit through the credits too (with your 3D glasses). The few small scenes after that that played with the 3D technology is amazing.

I just found this app where you can translate what the minions are saying in the movie! Go download it before you watch it here: http://www.bestbuymoviemode.com/

My favourites are the minions as well as the little girl, Agnes. haha. She’s so cute!

Source: Movie Wallpaper.net

Excellent movie! I gave it 4.5/5 stars because of the humour, fun, great 3D effects and some surprising stuff that happens in it. Lol.

Oh and the soundtrack’s mostly done by Pharrell Williams, who is a popular artiste and worked with people like Justin Timberlake before.

Thank you Omy.sg for the movie! :D

Anyway, Candy was sick before the movie so we couldn’t go for a good dinner! :( Another day then.

Leaving you with one more pic of the minion:

Shape Run 09

Posted by Jasmine on Jul 24, 2009 in Family, Friends, Interesting

Went for my first Shape Run last Sunday (19 July 09) at Millenia Walk. It’s my 2nd run (the first was PAssion Run).

Went to AMK Mrt to meet Wee Peng and we took the train to City Hall. We were advised to be there before 6.45am and I found out why after arriving (see below for explanation).

Deposited our bags, went to the washroom and then headed to the starting area.

There were a few things that I didn’t like.

1. The place was super small, and everyone had to squeeze around this area to get to the baggage area. No wonder we had to be there early.

2. During the run, there was NO indication of how far we had ran. This is super demoralising. Imagine that you keep running without knowing how far you have left to run and your brain will tell you that it’s never going to end. LOL.

3. They should put a path for people who wants to jog slow so that those who wants to run fast won’t get stuck behind. This explains my horrible timing.

I’m just 5 mins behind Wee Peng and she’s 400 places in front of me. Haha. My sis’s timing’s the one below.

Anyway, met up with Wee Peng again after that and we took our Vitagen and Yoghurt and then took some pics. Lol

An early birthday celebration for my sis!

Posted by Jasmine on Jul 10, 2009 in Family, Interesting, Movies

Last Thursday also saw me being quite desperate about what to give my sister for her birthday. She wanted expensive stuff like some porcelain fillings on her teeth (or something) and also Ray Ban’s. I have my own school fees to handle and also attempts to save up for the Panasonic GH1.

Side track a bit, the GH1 costs $2499! Not $1499 like what the Best Denki guy at IMM told me. :(

Just then, I heard about the “Movie Monday” contest that Shan and Rozz would do each week and let listeners bring their friend along to watch a movie with them. So then, I thought “Hm.. why not?” since my sis and I haven’t watched Ice Age 3 yet. So I texted in to Shan (Rozz was on leave).

Guess what? I received his call right as I’d just stepped into my house!

He asked me for my reason, which all I did was repeat my sms, and Shan asked what was it my sister wanted and why couldn’t I afford it. I told him about school and about my PT job and after he finished recording, he told me that he’ll text me the information. :)

This was for the previous Monday Movie Night

And that was it!

Monday (6 July 09). I met up with my sis at PS after work and we had dinner together at Kopitiam. Talked a bit, walked around a lot and then we saw Shan and Rozz and this girl heading towards us. We found out that the girl’s Shan’s gf afterwards. (heh heh) Shan’s freaking tall!! Talking to him felt weird coz i had to tilt my head up a lot. But he remembered that I’m from NUS and all! :D

Ice Age 3′s great actually! It’s like an adventure, comedy and romance movie all packed into an animated movie.

After the movie, we had to talk about the movie a bit, and Shan was like telling us what to say and all that. Lol. Rozz didn’t talk much actually.

Took the above picture with them and then everyone went our separate ways.

Hope you enjoyed the movie, Candy. I have no idea what to give you so hope you liked the movie and the outing with 2 DJs from your favourite radio station!

Happy early birthday! :)

Chye Family Outing: Xin Wang Cafe

Posted by Jasmine on May 19, 2009 in Family, Food

Last Sunday, Candy treated us to lunch at Xin Wang HK Cafe.

I’ll let the pictures do the talking :)

Dad’s Curry Pork Chop.

Dim Sum

Candy’s salted fish and chicken fried rice.

MINE. Pork Chop spaghetti baked with CHEESE. Huzz, are you salivating now? :P

Mum’s Fish and Chips. Comes with egg!

Everything was HUGE! We could barely finish it up. But somehow I wasn’t that full after that but didn’t want to over fill my stomach so that was all I had for the day other than breakfast. hahahaha.

Went to grandma’s after that and bought her some Har Gao and Siew Mai.

What a spoiler

Posted by Jasmine on May 4, 2009 in Family, Life

Wow my week ended quite badly, because it was spoilt by someone who doesn’t like me (obviously). I shall not go into the details, but this sort of thing happens like once every free week/months/years.

I’m sorry I have to say it like that, but me not thinking about it doesn’t work I guess.

Now I remember why I wanted to move out on my own when I earn enough money.

Anyway, Yi Long‘s back! Which reminds me that Henry will be back tomorrow and Wednesday will be the end of my first year at NUS! Yay!

I have so many things to do, including the cello lying under my bed, which Huzz lent me. :)

Happy!!

Okay. Now I don’t know what happened to her. She wasn’t like that. Reading her blog again now is super different as compared to the person she was (I guess) 8 months ago? Everything changed. I’m now even worried to talk to her for fear that her gf will get jealous or something.

I hope everything will be settled in June.

For some weird reason…

Posted by Jasmine on Apr 16, 2009 in Family, Thoughts

I am reading my cousin Jason‘s blog archives. Lol.

Anyway, for those who don’t really know me, I love reading people’s blog archives, after going through about 10 recent entries. I want to learn about the person (somewhat, though I won’t say that I will know him/her throughly after that), how he/she was like in the past and all.

And well, that day I was telling Huzz (I miss you, come back from outfield quick!) about something my cousin once posted on his blog and hence decided to look it up again to see if it was there. So I’m now looking at pictures of my once 20 year old cousin (eh, I’m 20 now hor) and *horrors* I forgot how slack he was then, and *even horrified* he played the cello when he was 20 year old!! I mean, yes I know he used to play the cello, but that was 4 years ago?!?! So long ago meh? Omg. I still live in the past…

Gosh, how time flies eh… Yea, come to think of it, it was 4 years ago, when I often go to PS just to look at the silent cello…

And now I still have yet to learn the cello.. )@*)#!

There are so many things I want to do that I shall have to do before I graduate from uni.

1) Learn the cello (please fix your cello my dear :P )
2) Be a good photographer
3) Be a good drummer
4) Go on 10km runs
5) Learn Macromedia Flash

Erm, there are more, but I can’t really think of them now. =/

P/S: As for the entry, I can’t seem to find it now :(
PPS: Okay I found it! Not at that blog though.

The sound of music…

Posted by Jasmine on Apr 7, 2009 in Band, Family

Friday
Went to NUS high school for Charmelon’s concert – The Sound of Music. Gave Melon a bottle of jelly beans with a flower deco on it. Haha. I didn’t want to get real flowers as they’ll die very quickly so got her that instead.

NUS High Orchestra wasn’t bad for a new orchestra and all. Though the first part of the concert was pretty uncomfortable with the emcees reading poems and all… It was pretty weird =/

Met Charmelon’s Dad and Mum before the concert (my Uncle and Aunt). They fetched me home after that.

Here are 2 pictures:

Charmelon and her family =)

Charmelon and me

——————————-

Fell sick yesterday and went home early. Wasn’t well today so skipped a lecture in the morning as well =/ Oh well…

My family’s watching this weird Jap show that doesn’t really make sense at some parts. Then the actors and actresses are screaming like nobody’s business. =x

Anyway, I’ve got to start destressing myself… seems like i always fall sick in April and before exams…

23 Feb 2009 – 7th year

Posted by Jasmine on Feb 23, 2009 in Family

Today’s the 23rd Feb.

My maternal grandfather’s 7th death anniversary.

I miss you Gong Gong.

7 things I miss:

1) seeing you sitting at your usual seat at home, watching tv, and in the past before you fell ill, smoking.
2) wearing your singlet.
3) going out on the rare occassions to “swim” on land (aka play mahjong).
4) getting one of us (your grandchildren) to buy ice-cream for everyone.
5) sitting at your reclining chair in your room near the evenings.
6) speaking English to me when I was a little girl in kindergarten.
7) winding the mechanical clock at home.
